OGP data services and three things to expect in 2024

Renzo Falla|

From more accessible data on OGP commitments to updated fact sheets, the OGP Support Unit was busy making OGP data more accessible in 2023. This data on open government reforms can enable stronger advocacy, peer learning, and reforms. Here, we recap some of the major innovations of the year and provide a sneak peek of what to expect in 2024.

Data services we launched in 2023:

  • The OGP Data Dashboard: We launched the Dashboard as a one-stop shop for accessing data on OGP commitments. The Dashboard makes it easy to answer common questions like which members have made commitments in particular areas, and whether these commitments have achieved results. Keyword search and filters make finding specific OGP commitments quick and effortless.
  • OGP Resources: A completely revamped OGP Resources page makes it simple to access everything from data analyses and tools to policy recommendations, case studies, and action plans. The new page enables searching for resources by type of content, including relevant policy areas, regions, and members.
  • OGP Fact Sheets: The 2023 fact sheets cover a dozen new topics, including beneficial ownership, digital governance, and inclusion. These fact sheets visualize data from IRM assessments on how OGP commitments fare in each area and how the number of commitments has grown or declined over time.

What to expect from us in 2024:

  • New data on OGP commitments: We currently classify OGP commitments by relevance to more than 75 open government topics. In 2024, we’ll introduce new topics, such as gender-based violence, climate mitigation and adaptation, and anti-corruption strategies. This will make it easier to find and track OGP commitments in these key areas.
  • OGP GitHub: We currently publish and update our core OGP commitment data online on a daily basis. In 2024, we’ll also publish data on GitHub, including data on OGP membership and co-creation, making it easier to access and reuse our data.
  • New policy area benchmarks: In 2024, we’ll use third-party data to pilot benchmarks for OGP members that support progress in key areas of the new Open Gov Challenge.
