Communique: African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and Open Government Partnership (OGP) Collaborative Workshop

The Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and the Open Government Partnership (OGP) co-hosted a joint workshop from 25 to 26 May 2018 in Grand Bassam, Cote d’Ivoire, which was attended by representatives from Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, South Africa and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The workshop was led by Prof Edward Maloka and Sanjay Pradhan to discuss areas of interest for collaboration at national and regional levels. Importantly, harmonization of activities to strengthen governance in the ten African countries that have membership in both APRM and OGP.

The workshop agreed on the importance of high level political support, reformers, institutional framework and robust civic space to ensure governance is strengthened in Africa. The workshop resolved to support the implementation of APRM recommendations and OGP national action plans.

The partnership between APRM and OGP seeks to ensure governance reforms in Africa establish public policy that transforms lives.
