Program Associate, Digital Content

Location: Washington, DC

POSITION SUMMARY:      

The Program Associate, Digital Content will play an important role with the Open Government Partnership (OGP) communications team. He/she will be part of a growing team launching impactful campaigns and exploring new storytelling mediums and methods.  The Program Associate will report to the Senior Communications Officer and be charged with managing social media accounts, producing and designing original content for social channels, the blog, newsletter and OGP storytelling platform.  

The ideal candidate for the Program Associate will be enthusiastic about the promise of open government approaches and have an interest in foreign affairs and international development. He/she should have familiarity with multiple communication channels and the curiosity to explore new ones.  He/she should have exposure to working in global and/or multicultural settings and some experience with international travel.

The Program Associate is an exempt position. Exempt employees are expected to work the appropriate and necessary time in order to complete assignments and related tasks on schedule.

The position will require international travel approximately two to three times per year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead community management of Facebook and Instagram channels and contribute to Twitter, Medium and other channels as needed. 30%
  • Design light-weight content for use on social channels and powerpoints  and oversee freelance designers on website, publications, infographics, etc. 20%
  • Contribute to OGP platforms by producing original content for blogs, stories platform, newsletters, media platforms and other items as needed. 20%
  • Manage analytic software and produce monthly reports. 10%
  • Perform basic research tasks, fact-checking and clearances processes. 10%

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Marketing or another relevant field     
  • 1 -5 years communications experience, particularly with a progressive non-profit forward leaning public affairs agency or government.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong organization management skills
  • Excellent writing, editing and research abilities
  • Experience with design software, including the Adobe products
  • Familiarity with and use of all mainstream social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Medium, Flickr, etc.) in a professional context     
  • Fluency in French and/or Spanish preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication abilities
  • Collaborative and positive attitude  
  • Ability to work in a distributed team and independently in an international, startup environment delivering on tight deadlines and multiple priorities.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

The Program Associate will report to the Senior Communications Officer and work collaboratively with the remainder of the team.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

International travel may be required two to three times per year.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Office is handicapped accessible and located close to public transportation. Work space is open plan and shared with other organizations. Occasional travel may be required to OGP events/meetings via long-haul flights in economy class.
