OGP Country and Partnerships Consultant for Africa and Middle East

Duration: 6 months assignment, renewable based on performance and organizational needs.

About the Open Government Partnership (OGP)

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a multi-stakeholder initiative focused on improving government transparency, accountability and responsiveness to citizens. OGP brings together government and civil society champions of reform who believe governments are more effective and credible when they open their doors to public input and oversight.

Since OGP’s launch, its membership has grown from 8 to 76 countries, with hundreds of civil society organizations participating in the OGP process at the country-level. OGP countries represent one third of the world’s population and have made more than 3,000 policy commitments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.

Consultancy Scope of Work

The consultant will collaborate with the senior regional coordinators leading on OGP engagement support in Africa and the Middle East to provide logistical, operational and administrative support for OGP global and regional events.

  • planning and execution of regional and global peer-to-peer learning and exchange events
  • planning and execution of high level political meeting of African leaders at the Summit
  • Support in the organization of strategic sessions at the OGP global Summit in July 2018 including communication with the session organizers and participants. This will include liaising with session organizers to ensure sessions are dynamic and follow guidelines set by organizers.
  • Support post-event follow up with organizers and participants, including evaluation of event successes and failures.
  • Support outreach to and engagement with priority stakeholders, networks and actors agreed on in conjunction with senior regional coordinators
  • Provide general advice and assistance on ensuring that the event(s) meet objectives.
  • Support in the organization and preparation of high priority country visits

Qualification and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in public administration, politics, international affairs, or relevant field. (Master’s degree preferred);
  • Three to five years of experience in open government, transparency, accountability, citizen engagement and/or smart use of technology;
  • Proven track record on project management and producing deliverables on time and budget;
  • Experience in stakeholder outreach and management with both governments and civil society;
  • Experience working on major events, including internationally, desirable;
  • Able to work as part of a virtual team - proactive in sharing information with team members to update on both progress and setbacks. Highly organized, detail-oriented, ability to consistently meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing project needs;
  • Experience in projects related to national, regional or international OGP processes.
  • Experience working with the Africa Union preferred

  • Proficient in English and French is a must
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, ability to consistently meet tight deadlines;

  • Strong writing and presentation skills, articulate, persuasive;

  • Sound judgment, professionalism and integrity;
  • Ability to patiently and diplomatically forge consensus between diverse stakeholders;
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across a multicultural virtual team;
