About the Event

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) Africa Regional Meeting will bring together government and civil society leaders, decision-makers, thinkers and doers from the region to engage with each other on the meeting’s theme, “Enhancing Accountability through Open Governance”. The OGP Civil Society Day – to be held the day before the main meeting – is a forum for civil society actors from across the region to exchange ideas, lessons, experiences, and expertise on the advancement of open government in Africa.

This meeting is being co-organized by Twaweza and the OGP.

What will we be talking about?

The main objective of the CSO day is to interrogate key governance issues important to African civil society; and explore means of addressing these issues within the context of the OGP.

Through a range of sessions, this meeting will seek to enable:

  • peer exchange on important governance topics such as the promotion and protection of civic space; the Post 2015 development agenda and illicit financial flows from the continent.
  • the strengthening of the diverse civil society community working on different areas related to open government
  • consensus building among civil society actors on key actions for the advancement of open government in Africa

Where and When?

The meeting will be held on 19 May 2015 at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre from 1.30pm to 6.30pm.
