      Problem

      Maintaining citizen participation in broader regional planning and priorities is challenging, Citizens and CSOs intend to focus more on the sub-regional and local planning affecting their daily lives and proximity needs at municipal (communal) level.

      Continuous, communication, consultation and Technology provide opportunities to expand and ensure engagement at regional level.

      Status quo

      Only few CSOs have the capacity to participate and engage in with decision makers at the regional level, including large CSOs and networks, few CSOs attend regional council's sessions.

      Action

      - Maintain the use and the promotion of digital tools for citizen participation at the regional level, E-petitions, Access to information,
      - Expand communication of regional planning information with citizens using social media.
      - Hosting of an online platform to monitor and communicate about the Sustainable Development Goals

      This commitment aims to expand efforts to broaden reach and engagement with citizens and CSOs by using technology tools to support and expand citizen participation with the regional council.
