Commitment Title
Cameras and Surveillance Systems to Support the District in General and the Livestock Sector in Particular
Problem
After multiple meetings with district residents, it became clear that one of the fundamental issues for them was cattle rustling. Another sector of the population showed interest in seeking strategies to improve security in the district. Combining these two needs, the idea of creating a security scheme that includes a control center and surveillance cameras emerged.
Status quo
The district has been plagued by the issue of being a transit corridor for immigration coming from the Darien, in addition to now having informal settlements of people coming from the capital city.
Livestock farming and agriculture are among the most important economic sectors for the district. Livestock farmers suffer from cattle theft, necessitating the creation of schemes to prevent this crime.
Action
We will create a new security strategy that will include digital tools and surveillance cameras. The idea is also to generate data in the medium term, which will serve us to generate new public policies related to citizen security.
How will the commitment contribute to solving the public problem described above?
Having surveillance systems and a clear scheme for managing that information, in addition to a good network of cameras, will not only deter those intending to commit crimes but also provide real-time information for authorities and serve to generate valuable data that will guide us towards future public security policies.
What long-term goal as identified in your Open Government Strategy does this commitment relate to?
In the long term, we aim to gather enough information to have a better understanding of district security. We want to put an end to cattle rustling and improve overall security indices.
