        Description

        Commitment ID

        DEDET0003

        Commitment Title

Establishment of a "data school" as an educational offer on open data and data use with the help of regional educational partners

        Problem

The provision of open data alone is no guarantee for strengthening the democratic opinion-forming process. Open data in its pure form is difficult to re-use and process by non-experts. Citizens must learn new digital cultural techniques in order to be able to use the potential of open data.

        Status quo

Only a small part of Detmold's population has sufficient data literacy to be able to use open data comprehensively. Individual educational offers are already available, but these must be expanded in a structured way and enable low-threshold access.

        Action

With the establishment of the "data school", all citizens should be able to educate themselves simply and easily around topics such as data visualisation, data analysis and data use. Municipal open data will serve as a basis for trying out and implementing the first projects of one's own.

How will the commitment contribute to solving the public problem described above?

Data literacy in Detmold's urban society will increase significantly, discussions can be conducted in an evidence-based manner and arguments can be understood transparently.

What long-term goal as identified in your Open Government Strategy does this commitment relate to?

The commitment strengthens the democratic participation of urban society by empowering citizens through learning new cultural techniques for evidence-based discourse.
