Commitment Title
Collaborative design and implementation of a training program and system for new youth leaderships in rural areas with a focus on environmental care and sustainable tourism
Problem
The challenge that this commitment seeks to overcome is the lack of education and training in environmental aspects, particularly in rural parishes. This situation leads to the development of unsustainable practices that negatively impact both the environment and the local economy. The inhabitants of these parishes and the region's biodiversity are the most affected. Additionally, limited environmental training can have an indirect impact on the local economy. For example, in the tourism sector, adopting sustainable practices could increase the area's tourist appeal, attracting more visitors and generating local employment within a sustainability framework.
Status quo
The current state of the issue is that no specific solution has been implemented to address the lack of environmental education and care in rural parishes. However, environmental education and awareness campaigns have been conducted in urban areas, and reforestation has been promoted in rural areas. These measures have not addressed the specific needs of rural parishes, and a lack of resources and coordination has limited their scope and effectiveness
Action
The commitment involves the creation and implementation of a training program and system to develop new youth leaders in rural sectors, with a focus on environmental sustainability and sustainable tourism. This commitment is expected to result in an educational platform that enhances the capacities and skills of young leaders, thereby contributing to resource conservation and the promotion of tourism that is conscious and respectful of the environment.
How will the commitment contribute to solving the public problem described above?
The commitment will address the public problem described above by providing an updated training program and system for young leaders in rural areas, focusing on environmental protection and sustainable tourism. This will be achieved by designing a web educational platform to support the program "School of Leaders for Sustainable Development in Rural Parishes". The expected outcomes include trained and informed leaders who can implement sustainable practices in their economic and tourism activities, thus improving the environment and contributing to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage. Additionally, it is expected to create networks of collaboration and support among these leaders, encouraging partnerships and joint projects that benefit both the community and the environment.
What long-term goal as identified in your Open Government Strategy does this commitment relate to?
The commitment is related to the long-term goal of "Enhancing the capabilities of citizens and promoting innovative, inclusive, and quality education at all levels," as identified in the social axis of the National Development Plan. It also connects with promoting sustainable development models and adapting to and mitigating climate change, goals within the Ecological Transition axis. This includes the conservation, restoration, protection, and sustainable use of natural resources, as well as promoting sustainable practices aligned with the specific goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to quality education, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action.
