Sammy Obeng

Executive Director, Parliamentary Network Africa (PNAfrica)

Sammy Obeng is a Ghanaian parliamentary development practitioner and an expert in African Parliaments, having worked in and with parliamentary actors in 20+ African countries. His role as Executive Director at Parliamentary Network Africa (PNAfrica)—a CSO that convenes and connects civil society parliamentary monitoring organisations and parliamentary journalists across Africa to promote Open Parliaments—brings him the responsibility of leading the organisation’s programmes in 13 African countries where it supports parliamentary institutions, CSOs, journalists, and citizens in promoting transparency, accountability, inclusion and citizen participation in the work of the legislature. Sammy is also the Secretary-General of the Africa Parliamentary Monitoring Organisations Network (APMON) and acts as Head of Secretariat for the African Parliamentary Press Network (APPN). He is a thought leader in OGP and Open Parliaments, as well as access to information, having worked in civil society leadership for about a decade. Sammy’s academic background is in Economics and Human Resources Management, and he has acquired other advanced certificates in Media & Governance from the Knutsford University College and Civil Society Law in Africa from the University of Pretoria. He is currently reading law with the University of London.
