Tonusree Basu

Job title: Lead, Thematic Engagement

Tonu leads OGP's cross-organizational strategy on thematic engagement, to advance reforms on sectors such as anti-corruption through OGP’s multilateral and multistakeholder platform. She focuses on supporting the OGP Steering Committee’s engagement on thematic issues, strengthening collaboration with thematic partners, and working with OGP’s regional teams to identify opportunities for thematic ambition and OGP’s support.

Tonu has consulted on international open government projects, including with Transparency for Development at the Harvard Kennedy School, UN Women, and the World Bank. She was part of the coalition driving India's Right to Information campaign and serves on the founding Executive Committee of SNS India, that promotes social accountability working with marginalized communities. Previously, Tonu managed the media and civic engagement program of India's independent parliamentary research initiative - PRS Legislative Research, where she helped launch the Legislative Assistants to Members of Parliament fellowship. She also managed a global policy network, in collaboration with the UK Cabinet Office and World Economic Forum on social impact investing coming out of the G8 in 2013.

She holds an MSc in Politics and Communication from the London School of Economics and an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School, where she was a Public Service Fellow. Tonu is a trained Odissi dancer and is based in London, UK
