Local Roundup | September 2022

Here’s our monthly roundup of updates from the OGP Local community for September 2022.

ACTION PLAN

• Quito, Ecuador, presented its second open government action plan, which includes five commitments focused on citizenship training, local economic development and improvement of the municipality’s geoportal.
• Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana, co-created its third open gov action plan and committed to co-creating climate resilience local public policy, building synergies to impact water and sanitation outcomes, and improving efficiency in service delivery via e-government.
• The Nuevo Leon State in Mexico celebrated its “Participation Week”, which included the announcement of the rules for their participation state law and talks, participation awards to local non-governmental organizations, cultural dialogues on participation and art, workshops and more. The Nuevo Leon Consortium kicked off their public consultation for their upcoming first local action plan.
• Corrientes, Argentina, held workshops for the co-creation of climate change commitments within its first OGP action plan.
• Santa Catarina, Brazil’s project for public services councils is part of their first OGP action plan.
• Peñalolén, Chile, invites citizens to participate in the Update of the Environment Ordinance, within their OGP action plan.
• The Municipality of Chihuahua, Mexico, signed an Open Government Declaration and began the co-creation of its first Open Government Action Plan.

ACTIVITIES & EVENTS

• The Transparency Commission of Nuevo León, along with 9 public institutions, NGOs, and academic allies have launched the network of Open Data Infrastructure. OGP and the Open Data Charter joined the launch event.
• Kaduna’s officers in Nigeria were trained on monitoring and evaluation.
• Public officials from local governments in Chile shared their open government experiences at the Local Open Government Workshop.
• On September 14, the City of Nariño, Colombia, commemorated the departmental day of community water management.
• OGP Local staff participated in the Forum of African Regions.
• The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Albania, Erion Veliaj and Anuela Ristani, spoke with OGP’s CEO about the city’s exciting open gov initiatives, its role as the European Youth Capital, and how OGP Local can support their municipality.
