Peter A. Ferguson is a Senior Policy Advisor with Open Government in the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. He has been with the Government of Canada since September 2021. Peter is currently Lead Pen and Project Manager for Canada’s first, whole-of-government Open Government Strategy. In addition, he is the lead advisor on international matters, including liaison to the OECD on their Scan of Open Government in Canada. Peter has a PhD in political science from the University of British Columbia. Before joining the Government, he was a political science professor at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Western Ontario for 20 years. He has more than fifty academic papers to his credit, has supervised more than fifty graduate students, has participated in projects funded by several million dollars in grants, and has numerous Canadian and international teaching awards. He is the Founding Director of the Leadership and Democracy Lab.
Canada is currently drafting our first, whole-of-government Open Government Strategy. This follows the launch of the new global Open Government Partnership Strategy, which Canada helped develop as a Steering Committee member.
