Deputy Chief Executive Officer

[email protected]

Paul Maassen started working with the Open Government Partnership in June 2012. He is currently Deputy CEO, leading and overseeing OGP’s global programmatic work, supporting fundraising efforts, and deputising for the CEO internally and externally as required. He also plays a key external representational role. Under his leadership, OGP is working to build a stronger, more political global coalition for open government and expand strategic alliances and partnerships to reinforce open government principles. Before assuming this role, Paul was responsible for overseeing OGP support to all government and civil society members across the globe. He has a long track record in developing and scaling innovative approaches and programs that strengthen citizen agency as part of broader development and reform agendas. Throughout his career, he has also focused on the role technology and media can play in changing people’s lives and the societies they live in.

Prior to joining OGP, Paul worked as Head of Finance and Partnerships for WWF International’s Global Climate & Energy Initiative, working primarily with WWF offices in emerging economies to strengthen the design and sustainability of their programs. Before joining WWF, Paul worked for seven years with Dutch development organisation Hivos, as program manager for the global ICT & Media program, where he developed a deep understanding of the complexities of supporting change in developing and repressive countries. He holds an MSc in industrial engineering and management and is based in Brussels.
