OGP Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting 2018

This is adapted from Minister Kim Boo Kyum remarks from last month

Good morning, your Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Kim, Boo Kyum, Minister of the Interior and Safety.

It is my pleasure to invite you all to the Open Government Partnership Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting.

Korea is now witnessing a new era, and its fresh start was powered by the people. The citizens have longed for an “open government” where the government and the public could freely communicate and cooperate with each other.

It is the citizens who lifted up the spirit of the nation.

One of our priorities is “government innovation.” Through government innovation, we aim to rebuild public trust and integrity in government and make “a better government” for citizens. Through citizen participation in the policy-making process, the ultimate objective is to realize “the Government of the People.”

The values of OGP, promoting transparency, empowering citizens, fighting corruption, are in line with the principles and vision of Korea’s government innovation. I believe OGP will become a reliable partner for Korea as the government strives to enhance governance.

The upcoming OGP regional meeting will be a great opportunity for diverse stakeholders in the government and civil society in the Asia-Pacific region to gather and discuss open government initiatives. We look forward to your continued interest and participation in the OGP Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting 2018 taking place on November 5 to 6 in Seoul.
