UK publishes progress updates for NAP commitments

Lizetta Lyster|

When we published the Open Government Partnership UK National Action Plan 2013-15, we committed to UK civil society that we would be open and transparent about progress as we implement our commitments. Today we have published progress updates for all 21 commitments included in the plan highlighting progress to date.

We are using this process as a constructive way of encouraging ongoing engagement between government and civil society and learning throughout the process so we can try new and innovative ways of continuing this collaboration through implementation of our commitments. This is reflected by the fact that, where possible, these updates have been drafted between government departments and civil society organisations who are working together to take these commitments forward.

The progress updates, which you can find on the relevant page for each commitment, show that work is underway on all 21 commitments and highlights progress against each individual milestone. In total there are 69 individual milestones against which we are able to assess progress. Of these:

  • 8 (12%) have been completed
  • 2 (3%) are ahead of schedule
  • 43 (62%) are on track
  • 16 (23%) are behind schedule

We are pleased with the progress that is being made to date, however we are aware that there are some areas that we have not made as much progress as we would like. Where milestones are behind schedule, there is clear reasoning and mitigation to ensure we get progress back on track.

The commitment progress summary data provides an overview of the status of each milestone.

Next steps

UK government and civil society are continuing to work together to implement these commitments and embed a culture of open government across UK government. We will continue to keep these pages updated as progress is made.

Over the coming months, we are looking to broaden engagement with civil society to help inform our ongoing strategy for open government and ensure we continue to make stretching and ambitious commitments in the future. If you are interested in being involved in any of our existing commitments, or would like to engage on an area which we may be able to explore further, please contact us at transparencystrategy@cabinet-office.gsi.gov.uk
