Director, Policy & Partnerships

 

The Director, Policy & Partnerships, in close coordination with OGPs Senior Leadership Team, is responsible for accelerating partnership-wide collective progress in policy areas prioritized in OGP’s 2023-2028 strategy. The core focus of the role will be on leveraging governments, partners, resources, and events for the delivery of OGP’s thematic priorities at country level. The Director provides leadership on and oversees the development and delivery of thematic policy strategy, activities and services across the priority themes and keeps an overview of progress across them. This includes steering our global advocacy work, ensuring that OGP is positioned and used to connect global policy pledges to country action. The Director directly leads and implements on at least one priority theme, driving global and country action. Success of the role manifests itself at the country level through the adoption and implementation of specific reforms that are responding to country needs, global/regional trends, and political opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Delivery & Expertise (60%)

  • Serves as an expert about key thematic leaders and reforms across all areas at international and country level
  • Oversees the management and expansion of strategic alliances and partnerships
  • Leverages the strength and access of the OGP Steering Committee, alumni, ambassadors, and envoys in advancing OGP’s strategic goals
  • Represents OGP in key global, regional fora, and networks

Fundraising (20%)

  • Manages key funder relationships
  • Ensures that program development is aligned with both funder and partnership priorities, with accountability for thematic policy deliverables in grants
  • Informs key strategic funding conversations

Leadership & Management (20%)

  • Leads on collaborations with other internal OGP teams to ensure that OGP’s publications, communications, and content match the thematic needs and interests of the community, while supporting overall strategic ambition.
  • Responsible for budget and people management of Policy & Partnerships team

Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Postgraduate degree or equivalent relevant experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Seasoned open government leader with a credible track record and global network across government, civil society, donors, and multilateral institutions
  • Experience on digital governance and/or anti-corruption is desirable.
  • Strong political and strategic acumen, demonstrating outstanding interpersonal skills, including relationship and consensus-building, diplomatic skills, and partnership development.
  • Strategic visionary with high quality follow through and hands-on delivery.
  • Experience working effectively with a range of diverse stakeholders from diverse contexts/cultural backgrounds and at various levels, including the most senior levels.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Can drive global-local action and deliver reforms at country level in numerous contexts.
  • Organizational, HR, and project management skills in fully remote work environments.
  • Can manage a complex workload, set clear goals and deliver outcomes, including in tight time frames.
  • Communication skills in writing, presentation, and facilitation.

This position involves regular activities in both remote home working and office environment.

This position requires some travel (15%).

Location: We have offices in Brussels, London, Berlin, and Washington DC. The Director, Policy & Partnerships may be based anywhere in the world; however, for scheduling convenience, we have a strong preference for candidates who can accommodate timezone accord with Africa and Europe.

Starting salary: 110,000-140,000 USD or local equivalent
