Commitment Title
The City of Mendoza is committed to implement the Eyes on Alert Program.
Problem
Crime has become one of the main concerns for the residents of any city, and public safety indicators suggest that we have not been able to identify and understand the multi-causal origin of violence and crime, in addition to the dynamics and social impacts they cause.
Status quo
Faced with this problem, the Secretariat of Citizen Security of the Municipality of the City of Mendoza proposes to comprehensively prevent violence and crime. It plans, organizes and implements strategies and actions related to community participation in crime prevention, in coordination with the Ministry of Security and community entities. In addition, it is in charge of the application and control of compliance with the Provincial Traffic Law No. 6082/93. It regulates traffic, sanctions and processes infractions and offenses against municipal ordinances regulating the use of public roads. It attends to traffic accidents without injuries, controls and stops vehicles not authorized to circulate, among other functions.
Action
It involves generating a direct and immediate communication channel with the entire Security System of the City of Mendoza, through new technologies, so that neighbors can collaborate by providing information on criminal acts or suspicious situations, in order to deter possible crimes, and thus achieve a safer city.
How will the commitment contribute to solving the public problem described above?
It addresses insecurity, adapting to the new paradigms, which requires that the whole community ceases to be a passive subject, to become an active subject in the fight against crime. Before the implementation of the System, about 60% of criminal acts and 90% of suspicious situations were not reported (estimated data collected from different sources nationwide). Therefore, it is imperative to engage the neighbor to be part of the solution to solve this scourge.
What long-term goal as identified in your Open Government Strategy does this commitment relate to?
This commitment is identified with the long-term strategy of making a more efficient and austere management, based on reality data that would allow more participatory, reasonable and effective decisions and extrapolate this experience to numerous matters of daily municipal work, with graphs and heat maps of the main areas of incidence in matters as complex and dissimilar as citizen security.
