Update from Paraguay January 31, 2012

Status of Paraguay’s action plan development process. 

The working group held several meetings and reviewed different inventories of Government of Paraguay good governance initiatives developed for other purposes, to identify initiatives that can be included in the Open Government Country Plan, with specific commitments. During this discussions, several initiatives were highlighted as relevant for inclusion in the country plan. Next steps are: draft the country plan, validate with high level authorities, and hold consultations with civil society organizations. The schedule is tight to complete the process for the meeting in March, but we can reasonably expect that the Government of Paraguay will meet the deadlines.

The Open Government Initiative was presented at the Second National Forum Against Corruption (II Foro Nacional de Lucha Contra la Corrupción) organized by the Integrity Office (Dirección de Integridad) of the cabinet (Gabinete Civil), with participation of civil society organizations, on December 9. As mentioned, meetings will be held when the first Country Plan draft is ready.

Topics as illustrative of the discussions: a) Single Window for Public Employees (Portal Unico de Empleo Publico), a program for jobs and employment information: public notice of employment opportunities, online recruitment and job application. b) portal that provides information on government contract execution. 3) free online access to legal information, such as laws and decrees.
